Scripture Reading: Amos 3:1-4:13 / Romans 3:9-31 / Psalm 85:8-13
Do you like sandwiches? In recent years, Subway has popularized the “sub” sandwich. They offer so many options and varieties…we can customize the sub just the way we like it! I do admit; I am drawn to the simple cold cut. Probably because my favorite sandwich is old fashion loaf lunchmeat sandwiched between two white pieces of bread garnished with ketchup and mustard…Yum.
Believe it or not, I see a God created sandwich here in Psalm 85. I call it a Peace Sandwich…it is peace sandwiched between faithfulness and righteousness, garnished by love. “I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people… Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, the righteousness looks down from heaven.” (vs.8,10,11)
Righteousness looks down…
Peace kisses righteousness
Love meets faithfulness
Faithfulness springs up…
Building the peace sandwich…
TOP: Covered and secured by the righteousness of Christ.
MEAT: Peace made with Heavenly grade, 100% pure righteousness.
GARNISH: Rests upon Christ’s sacrificial love.
FOUNDATION: Founded upon the faithfulness of God’s promised Redeemer
Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace has supplied everything that we need for peace… “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) So take a bite out of the Peace that passes all understanding… “Taste and see that The Lord is good!” (Psalm 34:8)
