Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 11:1-12:22 / Romans 14:19-15:13 / Psalm 89:46-52
Hope is a belief for a positive ending to occur out of uncertainty. Hope does not have a guarantee of a favorable outcome but a feeling that everything will turn out for the best. Hope by itself is admirable but hope in something that has been proven to be unreliable and false is foolish.
Paul calls God, “The God of Hope”. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) God gives men hope in the midst of the uncertainty of life. He is the one who makes circumstances and outcomes favorable because of His grace and mercy.
In the midst of despair, God is hope. When fear overwhelms, God gives us hope. The hope that flows from above comes with an abundance of joy and peace... joy that dispels discouragement and peace that quiets the roar of worry. People spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in counseling to have this depth of joy and peace. It cannot be found outside of God…
The depth of peace is only outdone by the overabundance of hope. Paul describes it as an “overflow” of hope. Not just enough hope to get us by in life but an overflow of hope for us to rise above life. God does not leave us to fend for ourselves but walks with us through all of life’s circumstances. He gives us “peace that passes all understanding.” (Philippians 4:7)
God not only comes beside us, He empowers us with His Holy Spirit. His divine presence dwells within us and speaks peace to our troubled souls. This is not a natural process but a supernatural empowerment of The Holy Spirit. God takes hope, peace and joy to a new level…a supernatural level. All that is required on our part…trusting in the God of Hope!
