Scripture Reading: Isaiah 33:1-35:10 / Galatians 1:1-24 / Psalm 107:10-22
U.S. and Interstate Highways are designed to provide efficient and safe roadways for travel. They are known to have limited access points, multiple lanes to reduce traffic congestion and higher speed limits for accelerated travel. Highways are major thoroughfares that are well constructed and can carry a heavy amount of traffic.
Not all Highways are safe or efficient. For instance, I65 is a very dangerous interstate as it is heavily traveled, is frequently under repair and drivers act like they are driving in the Indianapolis 500! The roads are treacherous…especially during the winter as strong winds contribute to icing and drifting snow.
Isaiah speaks of a highway that is constructed and maintained by God. “And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way.” (Isaiah 35:8) God has a highway called “Holiness” which is one of a kind. His highway isn’t traveled by motorized vehicles nor is it a physical highway located in a defined location. It is a spiritual highway that gives people hope, security and a safe route to eternal joy.
The Highway of Holiness has only one destination… the gates of heaven because without holiness, no man shall see God. The final destination of heaven is a place where “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things are past away.” (Revelation 21:4)
God’s Highway will not lead you astray; it is well marked and is extremely safe. It is patrolled by The Holy Spirit who convicts as well as apprehends reckless living, improper moral change and driving under the influence of the world/sin. It is not littered with the filth of the world as it is monitored and maintained as a ministry of the Church.
It is a beautiful highway of joy and gladness as sorrow and sadness travel a different route. There is no need to fear when traveling as God provides the greatest security and protection. Do not need to fear any ferocious beast, “No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it.” (35:8) God knows how to take care of the devil who is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
God’s highway requires a toll for access… which has been paid for by the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ. All is needed is the responder of faith and a commitment to obey the “rules of the road.” It is an awesome ride of joy, peace and provision… get ready to take the ride of your life!
