June 3 – God’s Timing
Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 3:22-5:5 / Acts 1:1-22 / Psalm 69:13-28
David had a storied life. He had more drama than all of us combined! The youngest of Jesse’s sons was chosen by God and anointed by Samuel to become Israel’s king. His journey included victories, tragedies and uncertainty. David was just a teen when he defeated Goliath. He would serve Saul for years and was victorious over all of Israel's enemies.
David won the hearts of Israel while Saul hardened his heart towards David. All of Israel knew David was anointed by God to be King and waited for that day to occur. David did not rise to the throne until years later, when he was thirty years old. (2 Sam 5:4)
David exhibited faithfulness to God’s authority and plan. Not once did he retaliate when King Saul was vengefully pursuing him. He knew God would exalt him at the proper time to sit on the throne of Israel. With a divided kingdom, David became Judah’s king and 7 years later, united the kingdom as he assumed the kingship of Israel too. David never gave up…
Sometimes we have to wait a long time to see the fulfillment of God’s call and promises in our lives. We may be tempted to give up or try to help God out. He doesn’t need any help…our efforts are nothing in comparison to His faithfulness and power. Don’t give up on Him…He is never late!
