Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 22:2-23:32 / 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 / Psalm 91:9-16
Get Smart was a 1960’s sitcom where secret agents Maxwell Smart, Agent 86, and his female partner, Agent 99, protected the security of the United States. They guarded Top Secret information that if disclosed, could bring grave danger to national security. That was a humorous look at secrecy, but secrets have been a part of humanity ever since Adam tried to hide from God.
God also has secrets and He does not reveal them to everyone but only to those who love Him. Paul referenced Isaiah 64:4 when he wrote, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”…. and then Paul added, “but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit.” (1 Cor. 2:9)
There are things that man’s eyes have never seen and their ears have never heard. They cannot conceive or understand the mysteries and secrets of God’s love or His divine purpose. Their eyes are blinded, ears deaf and minds oblivious to the things of God. Why… because their spirits have rejected or are closed to work of The Holy Spirit.
Man’s understanding and wisdom cannot exceed their own personal capabilities. Mankind doesn’t realize or accept their limitations…they believe they are the all-knowing ones. This was seen when Adam rejected the counsel of God, fostering a spirit of rebellion in mankind. Religious leaders and men of great understanding crucified Christ. If they really understood that He was The Messiah, they would not have lifted Him up on a cross but exalted Him upon a throne.
So much for man’s great insight and judgment…yet they are not without hope. Man has the opportunity to see, hear and understand through the empowerment of The Holy Spirit. The Spirit searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. He enables us to speak and react with a Godly perspective. God has secrets…and He wants to share them with us!
