June 13 – True or False
Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 20:1-21:22 / Acts 8:4-40 / Proverbs 14:25-35
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) True or false? Before I get myself into controversy, I believe the Word of God is always true. This statement is also true yet there are those in our world today who don’t agree with Solomon or myself.
First of all, righteousness does exalt a nation. The political landscape of our nation at times challenges that statement. Political advancement and power is often secured by the compromise or dismissal of righteousness. Corrupt nations and governments may seem to be strong but it is only a matter of time before they crumble. Historically, powerful nations have fallen from within, not without. Righteousness does exalt a nation…God honors and blesses righteousness!
Secondly, sin is a disgrace to any people. There are those who celebrate and encourage the practice of sin. They feel no conviction or condemnation of their iniquity. They do not have any sense of disgrace but a great deal of pride. Yet within the course of time, sooner or later, sown sin will reap the foul odor of condemnation and judgment...if not in this lifetime, certainly before the judgment seat of God.
Solomon did get it right, righteousness does have rewards and sin does have repercussions. The nation who honors and follows righteousness will be exalted. Sin will eventually conclude in sorrow, judgment and disgrace. Man may debate the possibility but God’s Word guarantees it as true!
